Minimig (review) |
This incredible project by Dennis van Weeren revives the Amiga ! The personal computer commercialised by Commodore between 1985 and 1994. The ITX motherboard feature the basics needs for today's uses: - SD / MMC memory card slot - PS/2 connectors (keyboard + Mouse) - SUBD9 connectors for classics joysticks - RS232 serial port - 3,5 Jack connector for audio - SUBD15 for VGA output ! - ARM port It is not emulation ! Minimig is an FPGA-based re-implementation of the originals Amiga 500, 500+ and 600 hardware. It implements the Amiga custom chips Denise, Agnus, Paula and Gary and both 8520 CIA's. The FPGA used is a 400K gate Xilinx Spartan3. But on the PCB there is also a real 68000 processor (the MC68SEC000) ! 2 Mbyte of RAM and a PIC controller for basic (boot/core) instructions. The VGA output is assured by the implementation in the FPGA, of the Amber chip present in the flicker-fixer and scandoubler A2320 board !

Yaqube from minimig.net realise an extraordinary add-on for the minimig. Based on the ARM port, his board implement lots of indispensables features. And his firmware optimize the game/demo/programme compatibility. - Support Hard drive by file on the SD card - Support 4 virtual floppy drives to use with ADF - Enable floppy acceleration by 2x. - Support long name for ADF and folders ! - Enable the "Turbo" mode for the FPGA (28 Mhz instead 7Mhz) - Support OCS / ECS selection - Support hardware modification for speed up SD read/write - Support hardware modification for 2 Mb add on the minimig board (total 4 Mb !).
Enclosure Loriano Pagni wonderful minimig black case.Additional Hardware - Logitech EX110, RF wireless Keyboard / Mouse Pack. I use it with my minimig and it's work very well. - Paul PSX adapter for 9DB. Wonderfull addon to use my wireless PS2 Pad on my minimig ! Thx to Brian too ;-) References Minimig on Wikipedia Minimig.net discussions |
